Meet Anthony
About Anthony
Professional experience. Personal understanding. A different approach to therapy.
Nearly 22 years of frontline clinical experience. 14 years in primary care. A personal and practical approach to helping people move forward.
Hello, I'm Anthony.
After nearly 22 years working in frontline medicine, I've decided to take my professional experience in a different direction — focusing on helping adults better understand themselves, navigate life's challenges and find solutions that genuinely work for them.
My work combines counselling, psychotherapy and life coaching, drawing on extensive clinical experience, academic knowledge and my own lived experiences.
I believe support should feel like a conversation between two people, not a lecture or a list of instructions.
My role is to offer guidance, understanding and encouragement while helping you develop the confidence to make your own decisions.
You know your life better than anyone. My job is to help you make sense of it.
From Frontline Medicine to Personal Support
Throughout my career, I've worked in demanding clinical environments, including 14 years in primary care, supporting people with a wide range of physical, emotional and psychological concerns.
I've worked extensively with people experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, addiction and neurodevelopmental differences, including autism and ADHD.
My professional journey has also included working in higher education as an Honorary Senior Lecturer, combining academic teaching with hands-on clinical practice.
I hold a master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice, alongside diplomas in psychology, counselling, change management and business management.
These experiences have given me a broad understanding of how mental health, physical wellbeing, work, relationships and personal circumstances can influence one another.
But they've also taught me something equally important: there is no single approach that works for everybody.
That's why I've chosen to focus on personalised support, giving people the space to explore their concerns without feeling judged, rushed or told what they should think.
Understanding Neurodiversity — Professionally and Personally
As someone who is neurodivergent myself, I understand that the challenges we face aren't always obvious to the people around us.
You might be capable, experienced and outwardly successful, yet still find certain aspects of daily life exhausting or difficult to navigate.
For some people, that might involve workplace expectations, communication, social situations, relationships, emotional regulation or managing competing demands.
For others, it may be the ongoing pressure of trying to meet expectations that don't fit the way they naturally think or function.
My professional experience supporting autistic adults, people with ADHD and dyslexia, alongside my personal perspective, helps me recognise the importance of understanding the individual rather than simply focusing on a diagnosis.
I don't believe neurodivergence should automatically be viewed as something that needs fixing.
Instead, we can work together to better understand your strengths, challenges, personal triggers and the strategies that may help you navigate everyday life more comfortably and confidently.
You don't need to become somebody else to make meaningful progress.
My Approach: A Conversation, Not a Lecture
I believe the most useful conversations are built on honesty, openness and mutual respect.
You can expect me to be friendly, approachable and straightforward. I'll listen carefully, ask questions, offer professional perspectives and encourage you to explore your own understanding of what's happening.
I won't simply tell you what decisions to make.
Instead, we'll work together to consider your circumstances, identify barriers and explore practical ways forward.
Depending on your individual needs, I may draw on techniques informed by:
- Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Exploring connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): Using relevant skills to explore emotional regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal challenges.
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Exploring personal values, acceptance and meaningful action.
- Solution-Focused Therapy: Identifying strengths, resources and achievable steps towards change.
- Grounding Techniques: Developing practical ways to reconnect with the present moment during periods of stress, anxiety or overwhelm.
These approaches provide a range of tools, but our conversations will always be shaped around your circumstances rather than a rigid formula.
My goal is to help you build self-awareness, understand your responses to difficult situations and develop strategies that feel realistic for your life.
Looking Beyond the Immediate Problem
Mental wellbeing rarely exists in isolation.
Our emotional health can be affected by work, relationships, financial pressures, physical health, lifestyle, personal ambitions and the expectations we place on ourselves.
That's why my approach considers the wider picture.
We may explore workplace stress, social wellbeing, interpersonal relationships, self-confidence, physical fitness, personal aspirations or the difficulty of balancing competing responsibilities.
Sometimes the most helpful starting point is understanding why a particular situation has become difficult.
At other times, it's identifying a small, practical change that can make daily life more manageable.
Progress doesn't have to mean completely changing your life.
It might mean understanding yourself better, setting healthier boundaries, communicating more comfortably or finding the confidence to approach a familiar problem differently.
Clinical Knowledge With Clear Professional Boundaries
My background includes many years in primary care, where I previously held responsibilities involving medication prescribing.
However, I do not prescribe medication through my counselling and life coaching practice.
If medication or additional medical treatment may be relevant to your concerns, I can help you prepare questions for your GP or another appropriate healthcare professional.
Where a person's needs extend beyond the support I provide, I can also help them identify appropriate specialist services, psychological support or further healthcare pathways.
My aim is always to recognise what kind of support is appropriate for your circumstances, including when another professional or service may be better placed to help.
What You Can Expect When Working With Me
Our sessions take place online, allowing you to join from a comfortable, private setting.
I work with adults aged 18 and over, and consultations are conducted in English.
Our conversations are confidential, subject to the professional, safeguarding and legal limits explained in the practice's confidentiality policy. Sessions are not recorded by either party.
You can expect a relaxed but purposeful conversation in which your concerns, experiences and goals remain central.
I encourage honesty and openness, and I'll offer the same in return.
There is no expectation that you must have everything figured out before we speak. Sometimes understanding where to begin is part of the process.
Let's Start With a Conversation
If you're considering counselling, psychotherapy or life coaching, the first step is simply finding out whether my approach feels right for you.
I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation, giving us an opportunity to discuss what you're looking for and explore how I may be able to help.
There is no obligation to book further sessions.
Your circumstances. Your choices. Your way forward.
